According to the Regen SW ‘progress report’, published this month £3 billion has been invested into the south west renewable energy industry, which now provides 14 per cent of our electricity and supports 12,800 jobs. Over 250 community energy groups have sprung up who have already generated 7.4 GWh to date. Thousands of local businesses and landowners are more financially secure due to generating their own clean local energy.
The UK led the development of the new energy technologies that powered the industrial revolution. A new global energy revolution is now in full swing with equally far reaching implications for our economy. Current government’s attack on renewable energy put the UK in the slow lane of that revolution.
